Let 2019 be the year of upcycling

Posted by Cato Cooper on

We want 2019 to be the year that more people upcycle their furniture instead of replacing it.

Our chalk painting workshops are a fantastic opportunity for you to learn how you can give your furniture a new lease of life using Autentico Chalk Paint.

Our interiors expert Cato will teach you how to paint your piece of furniture from start to finish with useful handouts and tips included.

Wooden boards will be provided with some detailing, so that you can try out the different paints and distressing techniques, as well as layering, will be covered. You will then be able to take your new skills home with you and makeover your furniture.

Our ‘introduction to Chalk Paint’ workshops will take place at the shop on Tuesday, January 8 from 7.30pm until 9.45pm, Thursday, January 24 from 10am until 12.30pm, Friday, February 8 from 10am until 12.30pm and Wednesday, February 20 from 7.30pm until 9.45pm.

Materials such as paints, brushes, boards to paint, waxes, an apron and gloves will be provided in the workshop price as well as refreshments and a picture frame for you to paint and take home.

The workshops are suitable for beginners and will cost £40 per person. Payment is required up-front before the workshop takes place. To secure your space, please call us on 01823 660076.

Upcycling or recycling furniture is a huge trend at the moment as not only is it money saving, but it’s good for the environment too as it minimises the amount of discarded materials and waste being sent to landfill each year. It also helps to reduce the need for production using new or raw materials, in turn reducing air pollution, water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s important to be daring when it comes to restoring or upcycling furniture. The possibilities are endless. You could incorporate stencilling on a plain piece or use Autentico coloured waxes, which are great for emphasising detail in old pieces.
